El Columpio. Trendy restaurant at Alonso Martínez.

This restaurant in Alonso Martinez is one of those that everyone speaks or in which everyone has eaten, so one day we had work in the neighborhood, we went to lunch to see if our expectations will became reality. Mediterranean cuisine in a very nice place was what we had heard of it, so we went there.

It’s a large, spacious, bright and with a careful interior desing. Here everythins has their place, from round tables for diners to small tables for more intimate meals. And the atmosphere is also quite varied, from groups of friends who take advantage of the lunch to talk as men who eat alone because of the nice and quiet ambient..

We started eating some of salted butter of the big bucket that was put on the table, appetizer which is getting lately fashionable in Madrid. Soon, our starter arrived, the Spanish potato salad or “Ensaladilla rusa” (9.5 €). It’s true that we like it whith more ingredients, but we agreed because it was chilly and the street was a horrible heat.

Being less hot, we went up to the mains: then it fell to the Mushrooms and truffle thin pizza (10.5€), light and very fragant truffle. Mini hamburgers (11€) and Braised octopus (12.5€) were the ending of the meal, because the Cod with sauce shitake (13.5€) was too salty and asked to return it to the kitchen.

It was removed in the final account, which demonstrates the professionalism of the people of El Columpio. The hamburgers were freshly made, and quality meat, and chips that accompanied were well done. The octopus comes with crispy Magreta (a type of pork belly) and romesco sauce, as bland as salty the cod was. This time we didn’t have dessert, but a good coffee to face the afternoon.

Probably we return another day to taste other dishes on the menu and enjoy their fast service, attentive, friendly and good table talk with one of those cocktails that beginning to be seen on the neighboring tables.
