Maitake. Japanese restaurant at Retiro with surprises.

I found Maitake, a new Japanese restaurant close to Retiro Park specializing in sushi, dishes with mushrooms and fungi; along with amazing creations like the dessert I tasted. Retiro Park is one of the green lungs of Madrid, and one of the few places of downtown where you can walk without ending up splattered by heat. Its large trees provide a pleasant shade to walk both to read a book or lying on the grass.

As you know, I just told you about restaurants I have visited and tested. You think you know “something” and quickly you realize that you still have too much to learn. And not to mention to Japanese cuisine in general; but as I ‘m aware, I effort a lot eating new dishes although my bikini operation resents itself 😉

The atmosphere of this restaurant is casually elegant and deco very neat. The furnishings are made of natural materials and colors are clear, which automatically makes you relax. To start thinking about what to order, I started with Edamame (4€) or steamed soybeans and Gyozas special recipe of three Chicken with curry and three Pisto Manchego ones (7€). All grandmothers of La Mancha are invited to copy the recipe, because the combination is very good; certainly they’ll in Almodóvar ‘s next film.

For main course, I decided to taste the rolls but not which ones, so I chose a dish that has a little of everything, the Mixto Roll (15€). It’s composed of California Roll, Ebi Tempura Roll, Spicy Tuna and Eel Roll. If I tell the truth, I would say that the eel was the best. I could not going out without ordering Maitake Risotto, made with parmesan and using Maitake mushrooms. It’s light and tasty with Japanese rice, a typical dish with surprise.

The dessert was the chef’s specialty, Tempura Ice (6.5€). It’s a vanilla ice cream that is fried and it’s gorgeus. Just do not dawdle making photos like me, you have to eat it at the moment! Still you’re wanting to eat without heat? You can take a look at my post of 7 places to eat cool in Madrid or to my Asian restaurants list, sure there’s one who goes with you.
