I love telling you about my experience at restaurants and shops that I know they’ll succeed before being too known. If you have to surprise a special person or nominate your group of friends a different place for dinner, pay attention. It’s not famous (yet) but Gigi likes doing things right and that’s the good first step on the road to success.
It’s a small and charming restaurant perfect if you are looking for an intimate and elegant atmosphere. Entire facade is of large windows wide. Its interior is warm and friendly, with a return to natural materials: brick walls, marble tables , wooden pillars , rattan seats and upholstered sofas. Lighting is very subtle, with nice lamps straight out of a French bistro. We were at noon , but certainly at dinner sure create a cozy atmosphere.
I got really close to the street to enjoy the light of Madrid while I waited for my parrner (no, this time I wasn’t alone). I realized that was a good idea to come up with Sandra; if not, I wouldn’t have savoured very good things. In fact, that is precisely my first recommendation: sharing. They haven’t a very extensive menu but you’ll doubt about what to choose, I assure you.

We ordered half portions so we tasted double of dishes. We opened mouth with appetizer, hummus with fried plantains (1.5 € with bread) to go immediately afterwards to the starters: Cod croquettes with black garlic aioli and Tomato tartare with onion , mango , avocado and cecina. Someday I’ll make a special post of croquettes, in advance I’ll tell you that they’re very good, especially with a little of black garlic aioli. The tartare refreshed us with a different interpretation of the recipe, with a surprising mix and a delicious beef jerky.
I was accompanied, so our next bet were two of the three Roast duck cannelloni and two Guinea-fowl Pan bao with strawberry ceviche. Cannelloni had a very very soft texture, the kind that you eat almost without realizing it and surprising because of strawberry ceviche ; salty, sweet and spicy at the same bite.
We finish off the job with Baby squid fricassee and Sea bass tiramisu with eggplant caviar; tradition and modernity together. Baby squids tasted like chicken fricassee of my grandmother, but without the chicken; rare but interesting. The sea bass was spectacular and the plate full of nuances; definitely the best of the meal.
Sacher Gigi’s style was the sweet closure to this visit to Gigi. I ‘m going to aim for those days when I want to eat in a special and quiet place with low music and nice atmosphere in good company. And of course, it is added to my list of restaurants in Madrid.
