Getting into this patisserie of Alonso Martinez is entering in a completely different world. If you decide to visit it, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time to the France of Marie Antoinette and being in one of the halls of the Palace of Versailles.
The place has a shabby chic style: you’ll be received by many moldings, columns, baroque capitals, mirrors and a “yellow butter” color on all the walls. Actually, sweetened decor is a perfect metaphor for what awaits you to eat: cupcakes and other sweet delights.
There’re two spaces. In one of them there’s the counter and is accessed through the front door of the establishment. The other is a cozy living area, less ornate and with some british air. In the vast exhibition area you can see all the cupcakes they offer, but also croissants and macarons, one of the French sweets par excellence.
Whether you sit in the French zone as if you catch a the British site, your consumption will arrive in a beautiful English crockery. With no hurry (they’re very careful the order will come to your table and could enjoy breakfast or snack.
We know that there’re many cupcakes shops. What’s diferent is their recipe: the Italian meringue frosting is made with caramel. In fact, their flavors try to emulate pies, only in tiny size: tiramisu or cheesecake are just one of more than 25 flavors of cupcakes. Their recipes come from Venezuela, where they opened the first store, so they aren’t novices in the world of sweets.
These confectioners with their own recipe for cupcakes and such a special place had to appear in this personal agenda that’s Madrid Cool Blog. As confectionery is not precisely suitable for diabetics, but to go from time to time to take a fresh gourmet is fine.
And to make up for all this sugar, here’s a spoiler: the next post is one of the hits of the season: bao buns. But without formalities, street style and take-away lunches and eat them anywhere, sitting on a stick or in a bench nearby Plaza de San Ildefonso.
Stay tuned and do not miss it!
